About Airport Tycoon:
This game has a few frustrating aspects about it, but I still recommend it. I’ll go over those frustrations as a warning, then follow with why I still recommend it.
- The game is very specific about how things work, and the tutorial while complete is somewhat passive. It’s just text and images, so you really have to pay attention otherwise stuff in your airport won’t work. Combine this with… 2) Lack of tooltips that pop up, or any explanation of iconography. How and why things are working the way they work takes a bit of time to understand. Additionally, there’s some buildings that require public roads and service roads, but nowhere does the game explain the indicating icons for this, leaving you to figure it out (like the vehicle checkpoint and catering building). 3) The game eventually buckles under it’s own weight. First, it gets real laggy when you start adding security zones and international zones. This lag jumps in when you try to build anything that modifies these zones. Additionally, planes start to become late to takeoff despite supplying 1 of every vehicle necessary plus ample time between flights, and it isn’t apparent why. I suspect it’s because vehicles and crew don’t leave the parking lots or break rooms until the plane arrives, rather than leaving ahead of time to be at the plane stand when they arrive. DESPITE ALL THIS it’s a wonderfully fun game to build your own airport, start over, build a better one, etc. I recommend playing on higher difficulties as you begin to understand it as the game is pretty forgiving with how much money you make off flights.
